Advise the Canada Border Agency Officer that you are bringing a firearm and/or ammunition into Canada for the purpose of a hunting trip. It is your responsibility to provide the Officer with the Non-Resident Firearms Declaration form provided by your Guide Outfitter. If you do not bring a completed form with you, copies of the form are available at the Port of Entry.
The fee is $25.00 CAD per Declaration Form. You can complete the form prior to your trip HERE but ensure that you do not sign the form until you are present with an Officer at the Port of Entry.
Residents of other countries who have prior convictions that constitute a criminal offence in Canada such as Driving While Impaired (DWI) may encounter issues when entering the country.
It is recommended that you contact the Canadian Firearms Centre for guidance on how to best prepare.

If an animal is lost, it is your guide’s decision as to whether the hunt continues. If your guide determines that the animal’s wounds are not life-threatening, you may continue to hunt that species; however, if the wounds are deemed life-threatening, you will be expected to make every effort to locate the animal.
Should you and your guide be unable to locate the animal, the hunt for that species will be called off.
Please don’t take any risks with shots. We would much prefer you pass on a shot and go after another animal rather than risk losing one.
No, rifle rentals are not available. Hunters must bring their own rifles suitable for the species they are pursuing.
Bring a rifle that you are most comfortable shooting.
- Moose or Black Bear: 7mm is preferred. For greater knockdown power, a .300 Win Mag or .338 Win Mag can be used, though with proper placement, it is not necessary.
- Deer: A smaller caliber .270 Win Mag or .270 WSM works well.
- Cougar or other cats: Recommended calibers include .223, .243, or .30-30.
Please use high-grade bullets such as Nosler Partition/Accubond or Barnes Triple Shock, and bring 2 boxes (40 rounds) of ammunition.
If flying, please visit the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority website for regulations on transporting firearms and ammunition by air.
Upon harvesting your game, your guide will field dress, quarter, and care for the transport of your animal.
If you are interested in caping or salting, a local taxidermist, Chris Laxton, offers this service for a separate charge. If you prefer to use your own taxidermist, please provide their contact details so we know where your animal is going.
At the end of each hunt, you will be responsible for completing a Declaration Form and a Record of Receipt for transporting wildlife.
Before heading out on your hunting adventure, it’s important to make sure you’ve got all the essentials packed and ready. The right gear can make the difference between a successful, comfortable trip and a challenging one. Use this checklist to stay prepared and ensure nothing gets left behind:
All clients hunting with Sheridan Ranch Outfitters are required to sign our insurance waiver form. The form will be provided to you by your guide at the outset of your hunt.
A 50% deposit is due at the time of booking to hold dates. The remaining 50% balance owed is due:
- March 1 for all Spring Hunts
- June 1 for all Fall Hunts
- October 1 for all Winter Hunts.
Tags and licenses are incorporated into the fall hunt cost and paid at the same time unless additional tags are requested at a later date.
All Government Royalties and Trophy Fees (where applicable) must be paid with cash or certified cheque. No exceptions. A 5% GST tax will be charged on Trophy Fees.
A hunt is considered confirmed only after the initial deposit is received. Should two deposits arrive for the same hunt date, the first deposit received will take priority.
Deposits are NON-REFUNDABLE. All hunters will sign our contact and liability waiver prior to the hunt. All hunts must be paid in US funds, and are subject to the Canadian Government Goods & Services Tax.
Deposits are NON-REFUNDABLE. However, if you have to cancel your hunt, but are able to find a replacement hunter for your slot, we will transfer your deposit to that individual.
