SHOT PLACEMENT, WOUNDING POLICY & GAME RETRIEVAL
If an animal is lost, it is your guide’s decision as to whether the hunt continues. If your guide determines that the animal’s wounds are not life-threatening, you will be able to continue to hunt that species; however, if it is determined that the animal’s wounds are life-threatening, you will be expected to make every effort to locate the animal.
Should you and your guide be unable to locate the animal, the hunt for that species will be called off.
Please don’t take any risks with shots. We would much prefer you pass on a shot and go after another animal, rather than risk losing an animal.
LIABILITY WAIVER INSURANCE INFORMATION
All clients hunting with Sheridan Ranch Outfitters are required to sign our insurance waiver form. The form will be provided to you by your guide at the outset of your hunt.
TROPHY & MEAT CARE
Upon harvesting your game, your guide will field dress, quarter and care for the transport of your animal.
If you are interested in caping/salting, we use a local taxidermist, Chris Laxton, that can offer this service as a separate charge. If you have a taxidermist that you prefer to use, please provide us with their contact details so we know where your animal is going.
At the end of each hunt, you will be responsible for completing a Declaration Form, as well as a record of receipt for transporting wildlife.
BORDER ENTRY
Advise the Canada Border Agency Officer that you are bringing a firearm and/or ammunition into Canada for the purpose of a hunting trip. You will provide the Officer with the Non-Resident Firearms Declaration form provided by your Guide Outfitter. If you do not bring a completed form with you, copies of the form are available at the Port of Entry.
The fee is $25.00 CAD per Declaration Form. You can complete the form prior to your trip HERE but ensure you do not sign the form until you are present with an Officer at the Port of Entry.
PRIOR CONVICTIONS
Residents of other countries, who have had a prior conviction of anything that constitutes a criminal offence in Canada, such as a Driving While Impaired (DWI), can encounter an issue when entering the country. It is recommended that you contact the Canadian Firearms Centre for more information on how to be best prepared.
ALCOHOL
Sheridan Ranch Outfitters does not provide alcohol; however, your guide will allow time to pick up what you prefer on the way to camp. While alcohol consumption is permitted after the day’s hunt, it needs to stay under control. If a hunter becomes too intoxicated, he/she will be asked to retire for the night. If a problem persists, your hunt will be terminated.
DEPOSITS
Deposits are NON-REFUNDABLE. However, if you have to cancel your hunt, but are able to find a replacement hunter for your slot, we will transfer your deposit to that individual.
RIFLE RECOMMENDATIONS
Bring a rifle that you are most comfortable shooting with. However, we can recommend certain calibers for certain game species.
For Moose or Black Bear, the 7mm is our preferred caliber. For more knockdown power, you can use a .300 Win Mag or .338 Win Mag, though with proper placement, it is not necessary.
For Deer, a smaller caliber .270 Win Mag or .270 WSM is a good option. Cougar or other cat hunts, we recommend a .223. .243 or 30-30.
Please only purchase high grade bullets for your hunt. We recommend the Nosler Partition/Accubond, and Barnes Triple Shock. It is recommended to bring 2 boxes of ammunition (40 rounds).
We do not offer rifle rentals.
If you are flying, please visit Canadian Air Transport Security Authorities website for information concerning the transportation of firearms and/or ammunition by air.
